American Soldier

Photos:
A. What is the most powerful image from the slideshows? Why?
September 1, 2008. The picture of Ian and his two friends saying good-bye really stands out to me. It shoes that these tough guys that went through difficult are still these soft guys that care for each other.

B. What sequence of photographs is the most powerful? Why?
The Basic Training photo are very intense and powerful. These young men sign up to be yelled at and pushed to their limits.
c. How do the images work together to tell a story?
The go in sequences of events. First he signs up then he goes to training and so on and so on.

A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
Past tense.

B. How do the captions enhance the photographs?
They help the person viewing the photograph to better understand what is happening.

A. Write three of your own captions to photos without looking at the caption written by the photographer. Be sure they are written in the following form. For this assignment you can make up names and facts to write your captions.
The picture of him in the care with some girl: Ian holds hands while laying his head on his girlfriend's shoulder. It's easy to say they are happy to see each other.
Ian is playing with a dog: Ian comes home to greet his dog. They both look excited to see each other after a long time apart.
Ian with his family at the airport: Ian looks excited to be home and both is parents look relieved. He is surrounded by his family and friends as they leave the airport.

Videos:
A. How do these other features enhance the photographs?
I feel like these videos make the pictures make more sense and I feel as if I know the peoples, especially Ian.

B. In what ways are videos better than photographs? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site.
Videos are better at know emotions and thoughts because you're able to actually hear the subjects thoughts.
Example: I wouldn't have known how close Ian was to his family or his thoughts about his decision without the first video.
C. In what ways are photos better than videos? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site.
I feel like photos are better at showing emotion and moment. They are able to capture that exact moment and everything that comes with it.
Example: Those pictures of Ian's friends and mother crying were really powerful to me. I'm able to really see their pain and how much they are going to miss Ian.
