Architecture Preview

The picture shows patterns because every window is perfectly spread out an even amount of space. Both sides of the basket has  handle which balances out the picture very well along with the two columns each.

This shows angles and shapes. Obviously not many building look like this violin and piano and therefore it's very unique.
This building shows a pattern of books. Even though they are all different colors and they titles are all different they all have the same concept and shape.

The photographer was really able to catch the detail of the cracks in this building. The cracks and destroyed look of this building is what makes this building unique and the picture really shows that.

The lighting in this picture really emphasizes the building. Not only does the shape make the building stand out but with the way that it lights up too.

Buildings from Across the World

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? The Taiwanese
2. When was it built? The end of the seventies
3. Where is it located? Taiwan, (15 kilometers from its capital)
4. Is it a private building or can you visit it? They are abandoned but many people still visit them.
5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? No but it does say that they were never fully completed.
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? At the end of the seventies, Taiwan had just overcome the oil crisis and was embracing the new economy. Flying saucers were very popular and the idea of building high end condos the better the economy even more was very intriguing to the Taiwanese.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question) I chose this building because I myself am Taiwanese and my mom actual took me to visit this site when I was younger. My mom uses to tell me how these building were haunted and they they were build over a burial ground of dead soldiers. It's marvelous how after thirty years of abandonment the structures still still pretty well with minor holes. It was scheduled to be bulldozed for a while now but they still stand tall as an historic site in Taiwan.

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Moshe Safdie
2. When was it built? 1967
3. Where is it located? Montreal, Canada
4. Is it a private building or can you visit it? It's an apartment complex so I guess your answer is yes?
5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? The high per unit cost is approximately $140,000
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? It was originally a project for an architecture program but with time became a highly recognized building.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question) When I first say this picture I didn't believe it to be really. I thought it was Photoshopped or ever a house made out of Lego's. After looking at more pictures and even pictures of the inside rooms it grew on me. Moshe Safdie is a very talented architect who was able to create a masterpiece that I'm sure no one could ever recreate.

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Paul Andreu
2. When was it built? December 2001
3. Where is it located? Beijing, China

5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? 3.2 billion yen
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? The arts is very important to the Chinese along with architecture and that is why this crazy design was made.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question) When I saw Performing Arts Center on the list I was intrigued. Normally people think of fine arts as boring and would never expect anything like this. This building is able to seat 5, 452 people in only three halls. Crazy! The Chinese like the think of themselves as the biggest and the baddest and with this building they are defiantly up there.

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Friedensreich Hundertwasser
2. When was it built? 2001

6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? It was based of a famous picture created by Hundertwasser.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question) I've heard of this building before and even seen pictures so I wanted to learn more. I find it interesting that these apartments were modeled after a picture. I have never heard of somebody painting something and then decided that they wanted to make it real.

1. Who is the architect (the person who built it)? Nicholas Grimshaw
2. When was it built?1999
3. Where is it located? Cornwall, United Kingdom
4. Is it a private building or can you visit it? Public greenhouse
5. Is there information on how much it cost to build? Nope
6. Is there a reason the building was created or the history of the building itself? The Eden Project is a gigantic greenhouse that holds plants from all over the world.
7. Why did you pick this building? (write at least a paragraph on this question)  I'm not going to lie, when I first saw this picture I thought of EPCOT. After further researching this it's nice to know that somebody out their still cares about our environment and is willing to build this gigantic greenhouse to help conserve it. It took two and half years to build but the reward is amazing. It's the largest greenhouse on the planet with plants from all over the world.

Action Shots

Sophomore, Sean Moran, unwillingly is running towards me in the bus circle at Akins High School. He was forced to repeat this multiple times for a Photojournalism Project assigned by teacher, Michael Reeves.

Sophomore, Sean Moran, is running aggressively with a large orange ball towards the middle of the street behind Akins High School. He tripped afterwards and ate the pavement.

Sophomore, Sean Moran, is about it lift up his shirt and flash the Akins Soccer Team along with a number of other strangers. He jumped over the curb of the bus circle and landed gracefully into the splits.
Sophomore, Sean Moran, jumps and lands right into Junior, Aashraya Nakurma's arms. They were goofing off after school on Thursday in the courtyard."He just came out of no where and I had not choice put to catch up," reports Nakurma.

Caption and Evaluation Practice

Last Sunday, Egyptian protestors in Cairo, Egypt became violent by throwing bombs at soldiers. Protestors, Michael Reeves and David Doerr, lit bombs and handed them out as protection while voicing their opinion on the useless president, Hosni Mubarak.

Floating lanterns- The floating lanterns show the rule of creating depth. The angle (viewpoint) of which the picture is taken makes it seem ask if the trail of lanterns never end.

Orange man - The man with the orange paint on his face shows the rule of thirds. He's in the front right of the picture but the space behind him is still open and free. With this effect the audience is really able to focus on the man and his expression. I guess this could also be background because even though it's blurry it's still a background that enhances the picture.

Valley of horses - In this picture, the little dirt paths along with the mountains create depth because it makes it look as if this picture can go on and on forever. Even though it's not perfectly balanced I still as if the balance rule applies. Not one side is to busy and not one side is too empty.

Touching Strangers ;)

I thought the ideas was really good and I actually enjoyed reading what they found out. It was a smart idea for a project.

Depends on the stranger they wanted me to touch ( I know that sounds bad), but let's be honest if they guy was hot and I wouldn't mind but if they told me to go touch a homeless person I probably would decline.

Hugging strangers?

It doesn't really seem like the photographer but much though into the picture. As long as the two people were touching either in some way he took the picture is what it seems like to me.

Videos

Alyssa Schukar - eating disorders and the affect it has on close ones, emotions?
The judges didn't like how most of the pictures were about the same distance apart. They didn't like how some of the pictures were cute off. Also they felt as if the stories she were trying to portray could have been a lot better.
One of the judges liked the picture of the African American man sweeping because it showed depth and they liked the picture of the girl running because it showed the expression on her face very well.

Winner - Dustin Snipes - sports and athletes
The photographer was able to really make him apart of the picture. It was like he was right their next the athletes instead of in the stands watching them.
I liked the different viewpoints the photographer used. He was never just right in front of the subject taking pictures, he was everywhere.

Contest Recap - They would mention a person and then debate on the pictures they liked or disliked. They would debate on whether the bad out weighed the good and if they are worthy enough to win.

Part 1 - Part 6
The two cheerleaders playing pool I agreed with the judges. They all laughed and one of them said, "Who gives a damn." I agree exactly!

The picture of the audience with the coaches eyes behind them was that it was a good idea. I don't agree, I think it was very creepy and shouldn't have been done.

Earthquakes and Sports

It warmed my hear to see this picture. In the Asian culture the elderly are respected and it's amazing see that even through disaster these soldiers are willing to carry this man to safety. The photographer was really about to show a patriotic side of Japan.

This picture is one of the saddest pictures I would say that I came across while looking at the websites. The thought that must have been going through this man's head while he was trapped between boulders with no way out and his only option was the watch as the water surrounded him and slowly killed him.

This picture was really shocking to me. To see a car in the middle of a house truly shows the strength of the tsunami. It was able to pick up a car and smash it through the wall of house it's just wild.

Newspaper Notes

Broad Sheet is the big rectangular format of newspapers.
Tabloid is the small square format of newspapers.
12 page broad sheet = 24 page tabloid
On a broad sheet newspaper there is an average about 3-5 stories on the front
On a tabloid there is an average about 2
News value
Teaser makes you want to turn to so said page. (They do not need pictures.)
The Eagle's Eye is the flag
Folio - School, Date, Title (Some newspaper has the price or website)
The headline of the story should be written from the first paragraph of the story
Sub-headline go underneath headline. It tells more about the headlines and the story
At least one sub-headline per page.
By-line: who wrote the story and their position.
Story underneath by-line.
Pages need pictures. There needs to be a dominant photo.
Caption below picture. The three parts include: caption head, photo by, and actual caption.
To fill up more space in a caption box you can write more background information or use a quote.
Those little graphics are info graphics that give you information of graphic form. Info graphics have additional information not available in the story.
Three pieces of the box: Table of Contents, Volume Number and Issue Number.
Staff box/ Mast head: Eagle's Eye Staff, Organizations, and Editorial Policy

Front Pages of the World

1. I like the Newspapers from Asia because they are different then the ones we see in America. Because the text has to go up and down instead of left to right the pictures have to be moved around differently and it looks cool.

2. One of the newspapers I saw was talking about the Grammy's and it show Meryl Streep.

3. Three or four?

4. There is always a big heading.

5. The layout of the articles to pictures.

Magazine Cover

Magazine Covers

Early Magazine Covers
In the mid-1700's magazine cover pages weren't really popular, but when they did come to it's time they were modeled after books. Some magazine would even have articles starting on the first page and going back. Cosmopolitan in the 1893 was one of the first magazines to start using a cover page and table of contents. At the end of the 19th century the question was should magazine cover pages be used. Yes or no?

The Poster Cover: Pictures That Need No Work
By the early 1900's, many covers looked so pretty that they looked as if they should be framed and hung on walls. Colorful illustrations and captivating photographs became increasingly popular along with the photographers Charles Dana Gibson and Maxfield Parrish. Poster covers really show the artist side of magazine designers and less of the design principle of focus.

Pictures Married to Type
The 1900s is when magazine covers started getting more complicated. Text would be added to the front cover. The text would advertise the stories inside the magazine to intrigue the audience. With this new style came a few complications. Placement of pictures became critical because depth was needed to really make a good cover page. The 1900s was very much an experiment time. Most magazine would print out different layouts to see which cover page seemed to grab the audience more and make them want to buy that magazine.

In the Forest of Words
An overlapping effect had become very popular in the 2000s. Advertising text would cover parts of the subject in the the picture. The words would in a way frame the subject to enhance the cover page.  Good cover pages uses vivid words and interesting topics to entice the audience. Interesting people would even be asked to pose in these pictures such as actors and models to get a larger following.

Photoshop Tutorials

Choicesheets

I want/am forced to be in newspaper because I feel like it could better my writing (even though my writing is pretty amazing already.) I also feel like newspaper would keep me informed in my school with issues or achievements. I could better know the students at Akins also. I think it would be fun being an editor too because I enjoy reading over articles and editing also would I would enjoy to see the finished product.

Photoshop

I really like this pictures because it gets the concept of "building" across but it's also different. It's not just a building but books and a spring. I think this picture really express my imaginative side.
The Akins High School mascot is an eagle so I chose to take a picture of an eagle. I like this statue because it really flows and the depth of detail is amazing. I really like the color coming off of this picture and I think it shows my attention to detail.
This is a picture of two of my really good friends and I told them to smile. Even though I'm pretty sure their eyes and close and they are over exaggerating it really expresses the silliness my friends and I act when around each other. My friends are very close to me and I think this picture shows that I care about my friends and their emotions.

My Holiday

1. On Christmas Eve, my 28-year-old sister, 27-year-old and 21-year-old brother, and I all stayed up until 4:30 am playing Rock Band. We are a bunch of cool kids.

2.My 2012 resolution is to get into better shape and build up my GPA.

3. I am looking forward to having fun and hanging out with my friends.

The Best of the Best of 2011

1. Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri
Christina Perri's Jar of Hearts song relates to pretty much every single girl that was played by a boy. Perri sings "And who do you think you are, running  'round leaving scars. Collecting your jar of hearts and tearing love apart." She questions these "players" about the actions they make and the damage made victims. I viewed this song as a very girl empowering song. It's showing everyone that sure we may be sensitive when it comes to the subject of love but that doesn't mean we'll just allow men to walk all over us.

2. I saw the Help in theaters and it's one of the best movies I have ever seen. It takes place in the 1960's during the civil rights acts and African-American slaves have finally had enough and have decided to speak up. So with the help of an open minded white journalist, they in secret begin writing a book of their household secrets. They talked about raising the white children, not being able to use the indoor bathroom, having no freedom whatsoever, and the feeling of being looked down upon. With this book many slaves where able to find their voice and leave the horrible situations they were in.

3. Benjamin Breedlove was a senior from Westlake High School right here in Austin, Texas. He died on Christmas Day due to a life long battle with a serious heart disease called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Before he died, however, he made this video that talked about his battle with the disease and how he had cheated death three times already. His most recent trip to the hospital was when he passed out at school and had this vision. He was in a white room with his favorite rapper Kid Cudi and he talked about the peace he felt. He writes "I then looked in the mirror, I was proud of MYSELF, of my entire life, everything I have done. " It's amazing that this 18-year-old could share this intimate feelings with the world. At the very end of the video Ben asks, "Do you believe in Angels and God? I do." Ben's funeral was on December 29th and it was estimate about 1,500 came to show respect, another thousand fans watched live as it streamed on KXAN.

David Tutera stars in this show called My Fair Wedding on the Women's Entertainment Channel. He basically helps girls achieve their dream wedding which otherwise would never have happened. He goes to these bride's homes and listens to their idea of  their perfect wedding and then transform it into reality. The latest episode I watched featured  a couple that had both lost their jobs due to the economy and had no money for anything. David not only created a beautiful wedding but he also surprised the couple with a honeymoon. David does something few people can do, he makes people's dreams come true.

Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted to cheating on his wife with their house maid and fathering her son. The once loved Terminator and Governor of California was found in a lover's quarrel in the year of 2011. He hid from his wife and children another women and son. It's sad to say that Arnold Schwarzenegger is following the stereotype of celebrities. He has not only betrayed his family but his fans too.

The Best Pictures of 2011

I like this picture because it shows the dedication of workers to be able to rehabilitate these animals.
I like this picture because it shows the loyalty of the dog that even though his master is dead he continues to lay along side him for as long as needed it seems.
I like this picture pictures because it's a truly happily ever after moment. The princess is getting her prince and they will rule side by side and give England new hope.
